Bruce Hammonds blogs regularly and always has some gems of wisdom or things to ponder.
Today he posted a blog about learning in which he wrote about Ron Brandt’s book called “Powerful Learning”. I liked this paragraph…
5 People ‘construct’ knowledge by building on their previous ideas. They learn through recognising patterns and their learning is not aways orderly because learning can be ‘messy’. As learners encounter new learning they ‘construct’ their knowledge; teachers assist by challenging students views by introducing material that conflicts with their current ideas. This approach is called ‘constructivism’ and values acknowledging students ‘prior’ knowledge -what ideas, attitudes and skills the children bring with them to any learning situation
This is how I learn and how I like to teach.
