Today I swapped my class for a day of teaching 3 adults how to use Apple’s software – Pages and Keynote. It was a very positive experience for me and I hope my students gained much.
I made a few of the classic ‘geek’ mistakes (low level teaching) as I overwhelmed my students a time or two but mostly was able to assist their learning and answer their questions.
The Apple software is great because once you have Pages under control Keynote is very simple – just add some builds and transitions (if you like the bells and whistles) and you are there !
Today’s teaching was a good example of Claxton’s Magnificent Eight Qualities of good learners. They are on page 123 of his book – “What’s the point of school ?” The students were curious, had courage, were exploring and investigating. They experimented and brought imagination to their learning. They were disciplined and used reason as they thought about the learning. The learners were sociable and hopefully will spend some time reflecting and taking stock of the process.
