Taranaki Again

We left Taranaki in 2000 to become residents of the Manawatu. It took a long time to transition and embrace the green and white. However I now embrace all things Manawatu so it was lovely to return to Taranaki for a couple of days over te weekend.

The weather was amazing as we crossed into Taranaki just before Waverly. The mountain was in fine form, surprisingly quite white with snow. After a few stops we made New Plymouth and booked into the motel.

Later we bumped into Mum and one of my sisters up town. Quite funny really – in the middle of New Plymouth and you run into your mother. Seems they had the same idea as us – browsing up town – and I was surprise, surprise – in a book shop.

That night we chose the Breakers over Will and Kate  and enjoyed the kiwi victory. The motel had Sky Tv – something we do not!

The wedding dominated the next day – it was a very nice affair and was generously catered and hosted by the families.

On the Sunday we enjoyed a few of the New Plymouth sites.

Looking back towards the New Plymouth Power Station and Paritutu.

The new bridge over the Waiwakaiho River out Bell Block way.

The view from the top of Paritutu! Well worth the climb even if it is a little gnarly.

Yours Truly at the Cape Egmont lighthouse!

We enjoyed a late lunch at 45˚ Cafe in Opunake and picked up Ellie and Mac from the kennel in Wanganui.

A lovely family weekend!
