Month: June 2010
June Sunday
When it is a winter’s day here in Palmerston North, and it has rained for a fair bit of yesterday the only thing to do is take your puppy outside and play with him.
Puppies can best be described as fluffy balls of inquisitive energy. I was trying to weed some of my winter veges and Mac came to help. He was fossicking around my hands as I pulled a few weeds and then suddenly would sprint off to some other part of the garden as puppies are want to do. His back end seemingly going one way and the front end another.
Later Tim came out and with a string and a sock we had a few minutes of puppy hunting sock.
The ground was soggy and some of the turns Mac did were funny to watch as he struggled for balance as gravity tried to take effect but here he is in full flight.
We were careful to take it easy and not over do things as he is still a very little retriever.
But as you can see with the third photo he was loving every moment of it .
The time will come soon enough when he is able to play longer but that was enough for now so it was time for a towelling to clean him and into his crate for a snooze.
Lake Church
Wet here today, wet but mild. Mac loves the lake on our back lawn. He jumps, splashes and cavorts in the water just as you would expect a Golden to do.
Ellie is a little more reserved and she saves her swimming for other water courses.
Mac is growing steadily and is starting to get the hang of a few commands and calls.
One thing which has been very surprising but welcome is this pups ability to toilet. A few errors but mostly very clean.
The Joy Of Walking
Came across this today as you do:
mnmlist concludes with..
I can’t walk this much every day, but I walk as much as I can, because you need nothing to walk, you spend nothing, you consume nothing, you emit nothing.
And yet you have everything.
This is also true for running! The value of action in action.
Had a two hour walk with Ellie today. Here we are nearing the shortest day of the year and the 3pm temperature was 17C. I was evn wearing shorts. A fab walk.
Health?
This quote today from Christine Northrup’s blog.
Over the years, it became abundantly clear to me that premenstrual syndrome (PMS), pelvic pain, fibroid tumors, chronic vaginitis, breast problems, and menstrual cramps were related to the contexts of an individual woman’s life and her beliefs about herself and what she thought was possible in her life. All of these factors are associated with very real biochemical changes in our cells. Learning about their diets, work situations, and relationships often provided me with clues to the source of woman’s distress—and, more important, what steps needed to be taken to relieve that distress. I have learned to appreciate the thoughts, beliefs, and behavioral patterns behind medical conditions in ways that simply aren’t addressed in medical training. These insights are the missing link to optimal health on all levels.
(emphasis mine) I suppose it is also true for us blokes? (obviously not the illnesses but the causes?
Take It Easy
Heard it twice today as I wore my ipod having pressed the ‘shuffle songs’ menu into action. And as I listened I heard, first the Eagles then Jackson Browne sing:
Take it easy, take it easy
Don’t let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy.
Lighten up while you still can
Don’t even try to understand.
Just find a place to make your stand
And take it easy.
So for a few minutes today I looked out at the sea and tried to do just that.

Mac
Introducing Mac – a new addition to the Church St Golden Retriever Kennel.
Mac was born in April and today came of age as he took his longest ride ever in a car and crossed the Whanganui and Rangitikei Rivers to find himself in a new home. And what a lovely home too.
Ellie was a gracious and welcoming older auntie and made Mac feel right at home!
Welcome Mac and thank you for choosing us! And thank you to Yvonne from Keridale Golden Retrievers – Mac is a beautiful puppy for us to care for.
Saturday Thoughts
And noticed in the streets the culture we have here in NZ of people carrying a bottle of fizzy drink with them! You see it pretty well every time you are out – and not just teenagers – it is an all ages thing. If only they knew the damage that sugar does.
The Jets Win At Home
Almost worthy of a blog – no very worthy – the Jets won their game tonight against fellow cellar dwellers Otago.
It was good to see them win at home – and as always it is better live.
